Today I am speaking with Frank Shirvinski, whose life journey has taken him from designing satellites at Hughes Aircraft to leading churches, to now combining both engineering work and faith-based ministry.
Frank’s story is one of curiosity, calling and courage. As a young man, he studied aeronautical and aerospace engineering at Purdue University, inspired by the astronauts who had walked on the moon.
His career began in the high-tech world of satellites before he shifted into ministry, where he developed a deep love of biblical languages and teaching.
Over time, Frank discovered that his purpose was not limited to one professional role. Whether in engineering, pastoring or writing, he has sought to serve God faithfully in every season of life.
In our conversation, Frank shares about living with integrity in the workplace, the importance of being prepared to answer people’s questions about faith, and why learning never stops, especially after turning 50.
He also talks about how physical health, curiosity and wise use of time are essential for living with meaning and purpose.
Frank is now channeling his passion into writing through Purpose Press. It is a publishing venture he co-founded with his daughter.
Together they have created resources ranging from children’s stories, like “Rosie and the Rattling Cup” and “Rosie Finds Joy,” to prayer journals, small group guides and devotional books.
His recent release, “Toward the Horizon,” is designed to help small groups and leaders explore the Bible with greater depth through lessons that blend study, story and application.
Frank also authored “Before the Day Ends,” a devotional written during the pandemic that focuses on finding courage, community and prayer in uncertain times.
This year, and after two decades of development, he published “The Trail,” a two-volume reading plan that takes people through the entire Bible in 320 days, complete with companion podcasts.
What gives Frank’s life meaning and purpose today is not simply the work he does, but the people he serves and the wisdom he shares.
He finds joy in mentoring younger believers, partnering with his daughter in ministry, and creating resources that help others engage with scripture more fully.
Frank believes purpose after 50 comes from staying curious, continuing to learn, caring for your health and using your gifts to serve others and glorify God.
His story is a reminder that it is never too late to start something new, and that even in later seasons of life, our faith, skills and creativity can combine to leave a lasting legacy.
